Filtration plant for coal

A filtration plant set up at Mafube·s thermal coal mine in the province of Mpulanga (South Africa) to dewater coal fines produced at the upstream enrichment plant.

General data

  • Customer: Anglo Coal & Exxaro
  • Type of facility:Filtration plant
  • Industry: Mining
  • Country: South Africa
  • Application: Coal
  • Output: 130 T/h

Description

TH conducted numerous laboratory tests to find the most suitable filtration system for this customer. It then developed, manufactured, supplied and commissioned a facility comprising six APN18 L filters with TH plates including individual feeding hoses. Along with the TH filter presses, 12 slurry pumps and auxiliary tanks were also supplied.

The plant can produce 130 t/h of dry coal waste with a final cake moisture level of between 16 and 25 per cent. Each filter press can process 20 t/h of dry material, making a total of 40,000 t of dry material per month.

The water recovered from the cake is recirculated back into the processing plant for re-use in ore extracting and enrichment process, thus minimising water consumption.
